One Minute Oat Milk

If you remember in time, you can soak the oats overnight to soften them, allowing them to blend slightly better. If you intend to use the oat milk for coffee, add a small dash of oil, which will help to emulsify the strained oat liquid and water to froth up. You could also soak a few nuts like cashews together with the oats, which naturally contain plenty of oil and will do the trick.

Yes, you can make this in one minute, but there are a few things to note here.

Only blend the oats for 20-30 seconds, otherwise they will become slimy. Also, don’t squeeze the bag too hard at the end or the same will happen. You can use the leftover oats for baking, I usually mix them into bread doughs, cookie batters or cakes.

This is unflavoured, unsweetened plain oat milk. Use whatever you like to make it yours. Dates for sweetness, vanilla extract for flavour, raw chocolate powder for a little health boost.

Ingredients

  • 100g oats

  • 800ml water

Method

Combine the oats, water and 1/3 tsp salt in a tall jug and use a hand-blender to mix the oats until well blended. Pour into a cheese-cloth lined sieve placed above a large bowl and lift the cloth to strain the milk. Gently squeeze out the rest of the moisture. Then refrigerate until needed.
